Coogee Boys’ Preparatory School (Coogee Prep) is focused on attaining a high level of academic standard. This is reflected in the results of NAPLAN testing and the success of the students gaining scholarships to Private secondary schools or entry to Selective and Independent high schools.
Coogee Prep is a single stream School with classes not exceeding 25 students. All teachers have particular subject specialties ie. art, music, design and technology and sport. Primary students are taught these subjects on a rotation basis, gaining exposure to a variety of experiences and activities.
Learning Support teachers provide assistance to Infants and Primary boys who require additional help with their work. Coogee Prep follows the curriculum set by the NSW board of Studies for Kindergarten to Year Six. The key components of the curriculum are:
- Science and Technology - including Information Technology and Communication (ITC)
- Human Society and its Environment (Including Bahasa Indonesian)
- Creative and Practical Arts
- Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (Including Religious and Values Education)
A major drama production involving all boys is staged every second year. All Primary boys learn an instrument and experience a range of music styles and can participate in the primary choir as part of the music program. In addition, a variety of clubs operate during School lunch hours. Boys can attend these clubs voluntarily, depending on their interests.
Chess and debating are important skills that all primary students are encouraged to learn. Coogee Prep participates in interschool debating and chess competitions. Computers and iPads in the Library/IT Resource Centre and classrooms give boys the opportunity to develop fundamental technology skills.
